The Department of Art of Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York invites applications for appointment at an Associate of Full Professor rank, with tenure, to serve as instructional faculty member and Department Chairperson. The Department of Art offers an AS in Fine Arts with concentrations in Art History, Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, Photography, and Sculpture; and an AS in Graphic Design and Illustration with concentrations in Graphic Arts and Digital Animation. The Department has a film darkroom, six ceramic kilns, four studios with skylights, a ceramics studio, two Macintosh computer labs with up-to-date software, multiple mixed-media classrooms and classrooms equipped for digital projection, and a digital image resource lab. In addition, the department has a naturally lit gallery that is used for local, national, international, faculty, and student shows. The department has 12 full-time and 59 part-time faculty members, three full-time and two part-time College Laboratory Technicians, and offers approximately 130 course sections each semester.

The successful candidate is expected to perform all the required duties of instructional faculty and to participate fully in the life of the department and college, including teaching and committee work. The Chairperson's duties are established in the Bylaws of the City University of New York and include:

– responsible for departmental records
– assign courses to and arrange programs for instructional staff members of the department
– initiate policy and action concerning the recruitment of faculty and other departmental affairs subject to the powers delegated by the bylaws to the staff and to departmental committees
– represent the department before the college council, the faculty, and the board
– preside at meetings of the department
– be responsible for the work of the department's committee on personnel and budget
– prepare the tentative departmental budget, subject to the approval by the department's committee on personnel and budget
– transmit the tentative departmental budget to the administration with recommendations
– arrange for careful observation and guidance of the department's instructional staff members
– make a full report to the president and to the college committee on faculty personnel and budget regarding tenure recommendations
– oversee annual evaluation of every member of the department
– generally supervise and administer the department

Qualifications
– an MFA in Fine Art or a PhD in Art History (areas of specialization open)
– a faculty position at another institution with tenure and at Associate or Full Professor rank
– a strong, active, professional background including publications, shows, or other demonstrations of disciplinary excellence
– a record of excellence in teaching and curriculum development
– a record of academic leadership skills
– effective written and spoken communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals across the institution
– experience in a highly diverse, urban, higher education environment, community colleges preferred
– excellent academic and professional references
– a minimum of five years of academic administrative experience
