TheSkirball Cultural Center (SCC) of Los Angeles, a dynamic cultural institutiondevoted to exploring and strengthening connections between people and communities,is seeking an Associate Educator of Family Programs. This individual is part ofa collaborative team that develops and implements participatory programs forfamilies of all types, especially those with young children. The Skirball’sfamily programs include drop-in experiences in the family art studio andarchaeological dig site, amphitheater performances, day-long festivals, exhibition-relatedfamily tours and materials, and programs related to the award-winning Noah’sArk at the Skirball family destination.

The Associate Educator of Family Programs reports to the Head of Family Programs and CommunityEngagement within the Education Department. This isa full-time position that includes regular weekend work – generally mostSaturdays per month and Sundays as assigned.

Under the direction ofthe Head of Family Programs and Community Engagement, the Associate Educatorperforms the following duties as assigned:

- Plans, organizes, supports and/or implements a wide variety of participatory arts and culture-based activities within the Skirball’s menu of offerings for young children and children and families.

- Contributes to curricula for archaeological programs, art workshops, performances, sleepovers, and other family programs; teaches/implements programs; develops budget; coordinates/reserves spaces; coordinates with A/V and security as needed; tracks enrollment; and purchases supplies and snacks.

- Oversees and facilitates drop-in programs at archaeological dig, open every weekend with extended summer schedule. Facilitates drop-in programs in art studio, Noah’s Ark, and elsewhere as needed.

- Communicates and works with artists (musicians, visual artists, dancers, etc.) presenting programs at the Skirball, advises or collaborates on content as needed; ensures they have appropriate space and supplies/props; responds to any particular requirements or requests to ensure program meets expectations.

- Recruits and trains teen volunteers support family workshops, performances, and other programs; supervises volunteers during these programs.

- Guides and oversees work of Family Programs Summer Intern.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher and 2+ years of work experience in museum education, performing arts education, or related discipline.

- Demonstrated skill in implementing and developing experiential cultural programs for children and families in an informal setting.

- Experience in producing large-scale events such as concerts and festivals.

- Track record of creating innovative/inspiring programs for families that appeal to people of all ages; clear resonance with Noah’s Ark at the Skirball’s aesthetic and educational approach.

- Proven ability to manage the details of planning and implementing programs.

· Excellent communication (oral and written)and listening skills and proven ability to work effectively with people ofdiverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.

· Collaborative work style; ability and willingness to multitask and assist as needed,accept and support change, and adapt to different work styles and needs.

· Basic knowledge/understanding of Jewish cultural practices.

· Personal resonance with the Skirball’s values-based,cross-cultural orientation and commitment to strengthening connections withinfamilies and across cultures and communities.

- Personal computer skills; proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

· Current and valid driver’s license andproof of insurance if using vehicle while traveling on the Center’s business.
