Youth Development Program (YDP) Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Evaluation and Program Development and coordinates with all YDP program directors

Part time, 25 – 30 hours per week
Hours are approximately 1pm to 7pm, Monday through Friday, with some weekend hours

Start Date: Immediately through May 2015

The Hunts Point Alliance
The Hunts Point Alliance for Children (HPAC) is a collaborative of the schools and community-based organizations operating in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, zip code 10474. HPAC's mission is to work with families to support the educational progress of the children of Hunts Point. Since 2007, HPAC has provided opportunities for over 200 children to engage in programming that sparks their interest in learning, engages them creatively, and allows them to look forward to the future. HPAC's vision is that all children in the Hunts Point community will be ready for kindergarten, ready for elementary school, ready for high school, and ready for higher education.

Program Coordinator Position
The Youth Development Program Coordinator is tasked with ensuring that HPAC’s youth development program pipeline is as seamless as possible among the various youth development, career education, and supplemental services we offer. He or she will be the main organizational contact for families enrolled in HPAC Youth Development programs. It is an exciting role that will help HPAC create a true continuum of programs that will positively impact the children we serve in Hunts Point.

HPAC’s Youth Development Programs include:
Program Age Description
Songcorps Rising 4th & 5th graders Students meet twice a week to learn American History through the evolution of music.
Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble: Chorus Rising 4th and 5th graders Students are immersed twice a week in Shakespeare’s themes through the learning of original choral music.
Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble: Acting Ensemble Rising 5th & 6th graders Students meet three times a week to study Shakespeare’s original text and immense vocabulary.
Storefront Ensemble Rising 7th & 8th graders Students participate in a writing intensive/performance program which focuses on writing skills, the writing process, structure and grammar.
HPAC Young Writers 7th through 12th grade 7th and 8th grade – Workshops aligned with Storefront Curriculum
9th and 10th grade – Writing workshops
11th and 12th grade – Kenyon Young Writers Review

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Manage student recruitment and enrollment processes of all youth development programs
Schedule and manage all parent meetings.
Maintain student records and contact information, including tracking of attendance
Assist the Director of Evaluation and Program Development to track attendance and collect student report cards
Communicate and coordinate day to day program logistics with families and program directors, including being onsite during program hours
Communicate and coordinate with school staff and school faculty coordinators
Manage internal referrals to HPAC Family Project and other HPAC services or programs (i.e. early childhood, etc.)
Coordinate with Education Counselor to secure tutoring for HPAC scholars if needed
Coordinate logistics for field trips and special events, including year end performances for the community
Assist program directors with logistics for year-end events (e.g. performances and field trips)
Attend program development meetings as needed to foster inter-program coordination
Provide program updates as needed
Create, maintain, and update a master program calendar for all youth development programs
Ensure all HPAC staff are aware of major events and performances by students
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced working in large, urban school districts
Experienced working directly with children and families
Compassionate towards the children and families we serve, as well as his or her colleagues
Great at building meaningful relationships with various stakeholders such as parents, school administrators, and community members.
Extremely organized and detail oriented
Creative and a problem solver that shows good judgment
A strong and effective communicator who is comfortable conveying information verbally, in written form, and electronically
Capable of creating and documenting systems and processes
Is well-versed in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.) and Google applications (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
Bilingual in English and Spanish
