Education Director

This position reports to the Director and exhibits a true commitment to the mission of the organization. The Education Director is responsible for developing and implementing all education programs & management of education program staff. With the Director, the Education Director establishes Lux's education priorities and objectives. The Education Director then creates educational strategies to meet specific community needs and program goals; identifies and designs current and potential educational programs; develops and cultivates positive relations with participants and supporters; and with the Director, Deputy Director and Board members, strategically positions the education programs for growth and impact.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Administrative
* Create and implement a comprehensive strategic educational plan and budget
* Allocate resources effectively and supervise education staff and interns
* Review and work with the Director and in setting and implementing action plans to fulfill goals and objectives
* Oversee education department operations
* Oversee promotion and marketing of all education programs in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Manager
* Act as spokesperson for Lux Art Institute's education program at community meetings and events
* Author and implement evaluation strategies and timeline for all onsite and outreach programs
* Ensure all programs align with mission statement for Education Department and the Institute

Outreach Programs/Valise Project
* Oversee development and maintenance of district and individual site partnerships
* Assess and update Valise Project presentation guides and lesson plans for each valise in accordance with new common core standards
* Identify curriculum/valise connections not currently addressed by the Valise Project and research and recommend artists to be commissioned to address those subjects in new valises
* Identify and cultivate new audiences for outreach efforts

Visitor Experience & Onsite Programming
* Oversee development of all didactic materials and art projects created in conjunction with each Lux Residency
* Coordinate professional development events and programs for area educators and colleagues
* Recruit, train and evaluate docents
* Provide studio tours for education partners, donors, and board members as needed
* Coordinate staffing, volunteers, and publicity for quarterly Family Day events in conjunction with artist-in-resident schedule
* Oversee development and implementation of all onsite programming including Family Friday, Art Out Loud, Kids-in-Residence, Summer Art Camp, Studio Series, and Family Day

Education Pavilion
* Plan and prepare for public opening of the Education Pavilion, a 7,000 square foot education center on the Lux campus that will include youth and adult art studios, a lecture hall, digital lounge, workshop, student gallery space and staff offices
* Oversee implementation of new programming and staffing in the Education Pavilion
* Propose strategic plan for increasing profitability of education programs, expanding and cultivating new audiences, and maximizing existing programs
* Align Education Pavilion programming and schedule with Artist Pavilion/Residency programming
* Plan grand opening event in collaboration with Director and Communications and Marketing Manager
* In coordination with the Deputy Director, oversee maintenance, cleanliness, furnishing, and up keep of Education Pavilion

Advancement
* Work with Advancement Department in preparing, tracking, evaluating, and reporting of all education programming grants
* Identify parents, teachers, and families in educational programs that have the potential to support Lux as members, donors and volunteers. Work with advancement department to nurture these relationships.
* Manage relationships with corporate programming partners including Qualcomm
* Successfully and passionately represent Lux Art Institute, its mission and its goals to the community

Hours

Some evening and weekend hours are required as well as travel within the region. Full-time, exempt employee. DOE, benefit package includes health care and paid time off.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
* A bachelor's degree required (with graduate training preferred) in professionally appropriate field (Art Education, Museum Education)
* Five to seven years professional experience of program development and supervisory experience
* Successful track record in program design, implementation, evaluation, and expansion within a museum environment

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
* In-depth knowledge of educational programs, and strategies.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Superior interpersonal and leadership skills to collaborate effectively with Lux constituencies, volunteers, and staff
* Proven organizational skills; able to schedule and complete multiple short-term and long-term tasks
* Proficient in software such as Microsoft Office Suite and other technologies in use in the classroom
