Santa Monica Museum of Art Internship Program

The Santa Monica Museum of Art is seeking enthusiastic, talented students from local universities and art schools to work as interns. Students are invited to submit applications to work in all departments of this dynamic, ambitious contemporary art museum. Interns will have significant interaction with visitors, arts professionals, and exhibiting artists. The intern's activities include such things as: assistance with organization of openings, special events, and educational programs; the opportunity to conduct research on upcoming exhibitions; compilation and organization of press packets and membership drive materials; compilation of information for grant applications; dissemination of public information and assistance with visitor services; administration and organization of the database, grant files, and archives; and maintenance of artists files and exhibition project binders. According to ability and interest, each intern will work closely with a departmental supervisor, but will be expected to be flexible and work with all departments on an as-need basis.
Interns can focus on the following areas:
• Curatorial
• Education
• Public Relations/Marketing
• Development/Fundraising/Membership
• Visitor Services/Public Information
• Exhibition Production
The museum's internship program is ongoing, based loosely on a semester schedule (Fall/Winter, Winter/Spring, Summer). Interns are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, have excellent writing and communication skills, be organized with an attention to detail, and must be computer proficient. Applicants must also be enthusiastic and interested in dealing with the museum's audience and colleagues.
