The Big Draw LA Project Coordinator (20 hours/week)

We have an immediate opening for the position of The Big Draw LA Coordinator to coordinate the overall communications, production and presentation of The Big Draw LA initiative, along with preparatory community workshops throughout the year and Ryman Arts' public events culminating in the month of October. This includes responsibility for print and on-line communications, managing the website, overseeing production of a mobile event app, coordinating registration of all public events submitted by community organizers,organizing meetings for event organizers, and project evaluation and reporting. The Project Coordinator coordinates all aspects of public events led by Ryman Arts including planning public drawing activity, organizing volunteers, procuring supplies, and coordinating logistics with event collaborators. The individual will report to the executive director of Ryman Arts, and will collaborate with the organizers of all events. Office location is in downtown Los Angeles, and will require meetings at numerous off site locations. This is a two year position available from January 2013 through December 2014.

The Big Draw LA is a regional celebration of the act of drawing during the month of October. Now in its fourth year, close to 100 public participatory drawing events will be organized by community groups, schools, museums, and other institutions in 2013, and promoted through www.thebigdrawla.org. The initiative is funded by the James Irvine Foundation and is led by Ryman Arts, a community-based non-profit organization that teaches and mentors young artists from throughout Southern California. Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in art, education or related area. Studio art background a plus.
Exemplary project coordination experience required, in a fast-paced environment; preferably in an arts or educational organization. Demonstrated skills in project planning and implementation and community organizing.
Strong writing skills and proficiency in social media and web-related tools and PC applications (including Microsoft Office) are required.
Bilingual speaking ability in English and Spanish is a plus.
