Assistant Professor of Photography and Digital Media

The School of Art at the University of Houston invites artists with a strong foundation in photography-based art to apply for a tenure-track position to begin in Fall 2013. The Photography and Digital Media program offers art courses in digital video, chemical based photographic processes, and digital photography. We seek an exceptional artist who understands digital and traditional photographic practices of video and photography but also pushes the boundaries of those pre-existing photographic definitions to include the most innovative applications of photo-based media. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of photographic history and critical/media theory, and be committed to advancing the discourse as an educator and an artist. The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm, vision and flexibility as the Photography and Digital Media program introduces new curriculum and initiates facility renovations.

Requirements:

• MFA in Photography or equivalent

• Minimum of 3-4 years of college level teaching experience (post graduate school) to include at least 2 years teaching chemical and/or digital photography

• Strong record of professional activity

• Knowledge or experience with other New Media technologies a plus

• Grant writing or fund raising experience a plus

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include: developing curriculum, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, participating in management of facilities, and other campus service, as well as committee service on the School, College and University levels. The successful individual will be expected to continue an active professional career as a requirement for advancing toward tenure.
