IN THE NEWS

The New York City-based ANDY WARHOL FOUNDATION FOR THE VISUAL ARTS HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS ENLISTED CHRISTIE'S TO AUCTION OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE POP ARTIST'S ESTATE in order to significantly increase its endowment and expand its arts-related grant programs. Starting in November, Christie's will conduct phased sales on multiple platforms — saleroom auctions, private sales, and online auctions — of more than twenty thousand artworks produced by Warhol. According to the WALL STREET JOURNAL, the auctions are expected to generate more than $100 million in revenue for the foundation. Christie's also plans to unveil a Web site that will feature sales-related information and, when online sales begin in February, will launch a Web-based series of "flash auctions." MOMA, COLUMBIA TO HOUSE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT ARCHIVES. The Museum of Modern Art, Columbia University, and The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation have announced that they have jointly acquired the extensive archives of the renowned American architect. The archives include some 23,000 architectural drawings and 44,000 historical photographs, as well as large-scale models, manuscripts, correspondence, and other documents.
