POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor – 2D / Foundation
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 22, 2011 (Fall 2011 semester)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. or record of extraordinary creative/professional achievement. Strong creative/professional record as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V. Demonstrated successful teaching of 2D Foundation and/or intro-level courses in a 2D discipline at the college level. Strong understanding of foundation principles of form and design in two dimensions. Broad understanding of foundation-level course content and concepts, specifically in regard to drawing, life drawing and 2D design. Ability to coordinate the 2D portion of a Foundation Program. Ability to assume a leadership role in running a Foundation Program. Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach other foundation courses such as 3D and or digital. Ability to teach courses in one or more of the Department of Art's other programs (Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, Fiber, Graphic Design, Illustration/animation, Metal, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Wood). Knowledge of historical and contemporary art and art issues. Ability to interface with discipline-based programs within a very large and diverse art department. Record of academic service.

DUTIES: Teaching assignment to consist usually of at least two courses from the following: Foundation 2D, Foundation Color Theory, Foundation Drawing, Foundation Life Drawing, Foundation Digital, Foundation 3D. Additional assignment per semester of one lower or upper division course as appropriate to the individual's range of expertise. Additional duties to include, Foundation Program Coordination, and/or student advisement, curriculum development, and committee work and other service in the department, college and university. The Reappointment, Tenure and Promotion process at the department, college and university levels involves review of the individual's ongoing activity in the areas of instruction and instructionally related activity (including curriculum development, student advising and involvement in student activities); research, scholarly, and creative activity; and service to the department, college, university and community.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: In a plain file folder provide the following required materials: letter of application addressing minimum and desired/preferred qualifications and duties specified in this job listing, statement of teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae with contact information including e-mail address, three signed letters of recommendation from professionals in the field, and unofficial transcripts. Semi-finalists must submit, original, official copies of transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate study in addition to an official signed application form (SC-1 form).

Also include digital portfolio on CD including twenty or more images of work by applicant, and twenty or more images of work by applicant's students. NO SLIDES. Digital images should not exceed 800x600 pixels, and should be presented either as a collection of JPEG files in a folder along with a caption list, or captioned images contained within a single PDF. NO POWERPOINT, KEYNOTE OR OTHER PRESENTATION SOFTWARE FILES. Portfolio MUST be accompanied with printed back-up comprising printed images and captions corresponding to all digital images submitted.

Applicants may also wish to include copies of their performance evaluations from prior teaching experience, copies of publications about their work, and other additional forms of documentation of their work or work by their students.

Additional supporting materials, including sample syllabi, may be requested at a later date and required of finalists.
