Job Description: Gallery Director for TAG Gallery

TAG Gallery, a cooperative artist gallery located in Santa Monica's Bergamot
Station is in search of a dynamic, friendly, hard-working individual to
serve as their part-time Gallery Director. Regular work hours for this
position are Wednesday through Saturday 11-5 pm. The Director will also need
to work one opening reception per month on a Saturday night, attend a
general membership meeting once a month on Thursday evenings, and assist
with exhibit hanging one Sunday or Monday per month. This is a salaried
position with additional commission pay plus vacation days.

Job responsibilities:

- attend to all the needs of the day-to-day functioning of the
gallery including warmly welcoming and interacting with all visitors;
promoting and handling all sales; maintaining security; monitoring
environmental conditions; answering phones and emails; opening mail; and
dealing with all other correspondence;

- Oversee the preparation and implementation of the gallery's
monthly exhibitions; including meeting regularly with artists prior to their
exhibition to clarify show theme, layout and show hanging, pricing, and help
them coordinate for receptions and any other special events happening during
their show;

- Actively promote TAG's artists to all patrons and handle all
potential client requests for more information on artists, their work; or
potential commissioned work;

- develop and oversee all press and publicity materials for monthly
exhibitions and all TAG related news, including writing press releases;
monthly newsletters, and other written promotion materials as needed;

- represent the gallery at public and private functions and events,
including monthly receptions, artist talks and panels, and private functions
when the gallery is rented out;

- investigate and identify opportunities for beneficial
advertising, marketing, and strategic partnerships for TAG Gallery to help
increase market base;

- coordinate with member committee chairs on all committees in the
cooperative to ensure for smooth and efficient functioning of all
cooperative member assignments;

- solicit potential clients for rental of gallery space for private
events and functions; coordinate with any renters on the implementation of
their event; and be in attendance as gallery representative at any event
being held by renters in TAG's space;

- Coordinate shipping of any artwork to clients after the
completion of a show;

- Attend general membership meetings once a month and present a
director's report on any gallery related business to be discussed or shared
with membership;

- Prepare monthly Board reports for the cooperative's Board and
coordinate with Board Members as needed in ensuring that all members are
fulfilling membership duties and requirements;

- and train and supervise any intern staff.

Desired Qualifications:

- proficient in using a PC and Microsoft Word programs including
Word and Excel

- excellent writing skills with experience writing press releases
and promotional materials;

- polished speaking skills (experience moderating artist panels a
plus);

- meticulous attention to details and initiative to work
independently;

- creative problem solving skills and ability to help facilitate
group work well;

- exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication
skills;

- highly organized with great time management and managerial
skills;

- passion for art and the art world;

- Knowledge of Los Angeles art world, museums and art market and
working knowledge of gallery operation (pricing art, hanging art, working
with artists and buyers, etc.) a strong plus.
