Music Center – Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County is one
of the largest and most highly regarded performing arts centers in the
United States. Every year, almost 2 million people visit its four main
venues — Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper
Forum, and Walt Disney Concert Hall — along with its vibrant
collection of outdoor theatres, plazas, and gardens. The Music Center
produces a variety of programming including Glorya Kaufman Presents
Dance at the Music Center, Active Arts at the Music Center, along with
programming for children and families throughout the year. The Center
also provides extensive services and leadership in support of K-12 arts
education. The Music Center is home to four internationally acclaimed
resident companies: Los Angeles Philharmonic, Center Theatre Group, LA
Opera and Los Angeles Master Chorale. The Music Center's
Programming and Planning Department has an immediate opening to serve
the role of:

PROGRAM MANAGER

The Programming and Planning Department seeks a Program Manager to
manage and supervise key areas of programs and events for the
Programming & Planning Department, including Glorya Kaufman Presents
Dance at the Music Center, Active Arts® at the Music Center, and
others position will oversee talent contracting; artist relations; and
provide ticketing support in addition to providing general clerical and
administrative support to Directors.

The successful candidate will work under the general direction of and
reporting to the Director, Dance Presentations and Director, Active Arts
will work closely with Operations and other internal staff; maintain
effective and on-going internal and external relationships including
Resident Companies, vendors, Music Center management; and serves as
point-of-contact for department. Successful candidate must maintain
positive relationships with all levels of Music Center staff as well as
key external stakeholders and partners.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Program/Event Management and Support

Responsible for comprehensive management of specific areas within all
programs and events produced by the department, including but not
limited to: working closely and in collaboration with production and
operations staff, marketing and development personnel; supervising
volunteers and interns (as necessary); coordination of merchandising,
and other related duties. Will also manages critical internal
communication for all aspects of each event including interfacing with
artists and the broader community to facilitate the mission of each
prospective program.

Contracts and Artist Relations

Contracting: Drafts, negotiates and finalizes contracts for selected
individual artists and artistic entities including ensuring the timely
execution of all contracts with artists, consultants and vendors.
Program Manager will also initiate and coordinate the booking and
scheduling of artists for some programs. Must know artist contract
legalese; will contract with talent and also with artistic entities.
Liaison and coordinates all artist hospitality including but not limited
to travel, hotel, and meals. Will also coordinate and manage all
activities involving visiting dance artists including ticketing,
merchandising and other related items. The Program Manager will serve
as the primary liaison with artists and their company/touring manager.

Community Engagement

Will manage the Dance School Network Program which includes low-cost
ticket coordination and on-going communication with local dance
studios' and public schools. Will research, recommend and implement
strategies to increase effectiveness and reach of program. Work closely
with Director, Dance Presentations and Managing Director of Education to
coordinate engagement activities (dance classes, open rehearsals, school
shows, pre talks, iReporter, etc.) as well as create and implement
additional community engagement concepts. Oversee evaluation of
engagement and learning initiatives.

Ticketing Support, including Box Office and Marketing

Serves as Box Office liaison, manages and coordinates in-house ticketing
needs including "holds" for press/promotions, company,
development, limited groups, and house seat requests; and will create
and maintain all sales reports. Will use the Tessitura database on a
daily basis to access data and to generate reports. Will work with
group sales agent to keep updated and informed of dance performances and
ticketing information. Ensure timely payment of group sales commission.
Marketing and external communications: Liaison with the marketing
department, assist Directors with the proofing and review of all media
materials, including website. Manages phone line communication and
ensures accuracy of information. Oversee the immediate response and
assistance to general public inquiries received via program e-mails.

General Duties

Customer Service: Handling external and internal inquiries with
positivity and professionalism and the ability to follow through in a
timely and appropriate manner. Bookkeeping: Tracking, coding, and
payment of all invoices. Manage cash requests and deposits for
merchandise sales. Will support Directors by providing administrative
support including creation of complex reports; data management; project
research, etc. General clerical duties and support as needed.

Required skills and qualifications include: BA Degree from an
accredited four-year college or equivalent education and experience
required, Masters Degree (M.A.) a plus. In addition, 5 years related
experience minimum in arts or events management and/or equivalent
experience at a comparable level of program management including
knowledge and experience with standard performing arts production
practices including familiarity with technical theater, house
management, box office and artist needs, preferred. Must possess strong
communication skills; be articulate and able to communicate effectively
and succinctly with all levels of personnel and staff; strong written
skills with knowledge on contract management/legalese; excellent
proofreading skills. Must have a high level of commitment to the work
as well as be detailed-oriented and possess excellent follow through.
Must be able to prioritize projects, multi-task, work well under
pressure and in a fast-paced environment; not get easily distracted with
competing priorities. Must be pro-active, self-directed; be able to
work independently and work effectively in team environment. Must
possess strong analytical skills to effectively and creatively
problem-solve.

Skilled in computer use: Highly functioning in Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access and Outlook, required. Familiarity with Tessitura is preferred.
Have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds, un-assisted. Candidates
must possess a car and a valid California driver's license. Some
evening and weekend hours throughout the entire year are required.

Salary range: $45,000 - $50,000 Per Year commensurate with experience
this is a non-exempt/hourly position.

PLEASE NOTE: this is a revised posting for this position to be seriously

supervisory/managerial experience in arts administration and/or public
event support. Knowledge of music or related arts background and
technical theatre experience is strongly preferred knowledge of or
background in dance is not required.
