The Zimmer Children's Museum is dedicated to teaching children, youth, and adults about the BIG IDEAS of global citizenship, community responsibility, environmental stewardship and cultural sensitivity by highlighting the ideals of respect for others, generosity of heart, helping those in need, accepting differences and celebrating uniqueness. Our mission is to promote values that help make a better society through interactive learning, creative self-expression and art experiences for children, youth and families. Founded in 1991 as My Jewish Discovery Place under the auspices of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater L.A., the Museum moved to its current location on Museum Row in 2000, at which time it significantly expanded its reach to serve diverse audiences through new exhibits, arts programs, community-based programming, and outreach. In 2005, the Zimmer became its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with two programmatic divisions- the Museum and youTHink.

The Museum features hands-on exhibits; programs for families and children up to age 8; toddler programs for children 18 months-3 years; theme-based community festivals for children and parents; art, theater and music workshops; school tours for pre-kindergarten through second grade classes that support curriculum; joint customized programming with other organizations, and community outreach.
