DESCRIPTION: To commemorate the City of West Hollywood's 25th Anniversary of Cityhood, the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission is inviting local artists to participate in a juried show celebrating West Hollywood's art and artists from the last 25 years. As a celebration of the City's history, artwork created since 1984 is eligible for inclusion in the exhibition.

The exhibition will take place in a temporary gallery specifically set up for this exhibition. The temporary gallery is located at 8270 Santa Monica Boulevard, a half block east of City Hall.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists living in, working in or with a strong connection to the City of West Hollywood. There is NO FEE for entry.

MEDIA: All media. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration by the juror.

ENTRY: All information including artist's name and contact information, as well as the title, medium, date and dimensions for all pieces, must be submitted on the entry form, as well as on photos/printouts of artwork.

Artists Bio and Artist's Statement: Include a one paragraph artist's bio and a one paragraph artist's statement regarding the work and the artist's relationship to West Hollywood.

Artwork: Juror will review only photos/printouts of artwork. All information including name, title, date, medium and dimensions must be written on the bottom right corner of the image side of the page. (Please indicate "top.") Improperly labeled entries may be rejected. No actual work will be reviewed by the juror. Entries must be printed on photo-quality paper and presented in a 3-hole-punched plastic sheet protector. For video: please send 1/2" VHS, NTSC or DVD. Make sure tapes are cued. Accepted video artists must provide their own equipment (monitors, projectors, VHS/DVD players etc.). Tapes and discs must be set up for continuous play.

The City of West Hollywood is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. NO ACTUAL WORK WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE JUROR prior to selection process. ENTRIES MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY COMPLETED ENTRY FORM and Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE). ALL entries sent without SASE will not be returned. Images of accepted work become property of the City of West Hollywood to be used for press and promotional materials. Artists selected for this exhibition must have a high-resolution jpeg image (300 dpi, 4"x 4") available of each selected artwork for press purposes within 7 days of acceptance notification.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK: Accepted work must be available October 29, 2010—November 27, 2010. Work will be delivered to the temporary gallery at 8270 Santa Monica Boulevard on Friday, October 29, or Saturday October 30, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. All other arrangements must be made in advance and approved by the City of West Hollywood. All work must be properly framed and/or ready to hang— no saw tooth or clip on hangers— no exceptions. If works require specific hardware, it must be provided when work is delivered. At the juror's discretion, work that is dirty, in disrepair or otherwise deemed unfit for display may be excluded from the show. Decisions of the juror are final. Work must be unwrapped upon delivery— City of West Hollywood will not store any packing materials.

SALES: Any inquiries from gallery visitors regarding the purchase of a work will be referred to the artist by the City of West Hollywood, should the artist be interested in selling the piece.

LIABILITY: The City of West Hollywood, its staff, Council, Commissions or anyone connected to the exhibition will not be responsible for loss, damage, breakage or theft of artwork while at the gallery. Artist is responsible for any insurance of work. Your entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with these terms and conditions as set forth in the prospectus.

ABOUT WEST HOLLYWOOD AND THE ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS COMMISSION: The City of West Hollywood, known as the "Creative City," was incorporated in 1984. It is 1.9 square miles in area and is bounded by Beverly Hills to the west, Hollywood to the east, and Los Angeles to the north and south. West Hollywood is home to approximately 36,000 residents and over 3,500 businesses. Sixty percent (60%) of adults are college-educated, and 54% are employed in managerial and professional occupations. Approximately 40% of the City's residents are gay or lesbian, 10% are Russian-speaking immigrants, and close to 20% are senior citizens. The West Hollywood Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission consists of seven members appointed by City Council. The Commission aims to promote activities that nurture the arts and cultural life of West Hollywood. The Commission accomplishes this mission through administration of several programs, including awarding yearly arts grants, annually reviewing the City's cultural programs, and providing oversight on all public art installed in the City.
