AMP's picture

Venice Arts seeks a multi–disciplinary visual or performing artist to teach
and lead its Art Discovery program for 8-9 year old children. Art Discovery
is a multi–disciplinary workshop that integrates visual, performing, and
media arts learning to provide children with foundation knowledge in visual
arts and storytelling, and to prepare them for Venice Arts’ programs in
media-based art making (photography, film, multimedia) for older youth.

About Venice Arts

Venice Arts is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to ignite
youths’ imagination, mentor their creativity, and expand their sense of
possibility through high quality, accessible media–based arts education
programs. Venice Arts also serves as a catalyst for people of all ages,
living in low–income or underrepresented communities, to create and share
personal and community stories through photography, film, multi–media and
visual arts.
Terms

Instructors are independent contractors who are paid a fixed rate of $2,160
for workshops taught over a 22–week period (with a 6-week break from
mid-December until Februrary).

Working on a contract basis, the Lead Artist for Art Discovery is
responsible for:

· Building lesson plans that support the learning goals identified by
Venice Arts

· Nurturing volunteer artists, who work as educators and mentors in the
classroom

· Managing the class, including identifying the need for equipment and
supplies and communicating about behavioral, attendance, or other problems

· Assuring a quality presentation of youth work for the spring
culminating event and for features on the web

Qualifications

The ideal artist for this workshop is a visual or performing arts educator
who works comfortably across multiple disciplines. Experience teaching youth
in this age group (8-9 years old), and honoring them as young
artists/creators is required. An understanding of Visual and Performing Art
Standards is a strong plus, as is experience developing art education lesson
plans. Must be able to both lead and work as a member of a teaching team.
