LOS ANGELES ASIAN PACIFIC FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE: SHORT FILMS

Duration: September 2010 through May 2011

Deadline to Apply: September 21, 2010

Reports to: Co-Festival Director

Description: The Program Committee of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is the component of the Festival charged with soliciting, reviewing, selecting and scheduling the screening programs of Film Festival. Selected candidates will work as part of an approximately twelve-member team to review and deliberate on upwards of 400-plus selections (feature-length and short subjects in all genres) submitted through an Open Call process as well as solicited and curated works.

For this position, the Festival is seeking up to five (5) candidates to fill out its team of short films committee members. In addition to selecting and programming works from over 200 submissions, elected candidates will also be responsible for selecting awards finalists for short film; compose program notes for the Festival catalog and related print and online products generated by the Festival; present screening programs throughout Festival Week 2011 and act as the Festival's ambassador to visiting artists during the Festival. Selected candidates will also be encouraged to propose marketing and outreach strategies for thematic and individual programming to the Festival Marketing Team and Honorary Board; and will have the opportunity to travel to select local festivals for programming research. A considerable time commitment is required, and positions are on a volunteer basis; but the experience is ultimately rewarding.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated time commitment in order to view entries in a group review setting

• Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills

• Strong expository and critical writing skills (samples required)

• Strong internet research skills

• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with diverse perspectives and opinions regarding Asian international and diasporic cinema

• Knowledge of Asian Pacific American issues pertaining to cinema, politics and culture a plus

The Film Festival, as with its parent organization Visual Communications, is as much a teaching environment as well as a professional one; dedicated individuals looking to hone their skills in these areas will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

How To Apply: Please send a resume, cover letter and writing samples to Abraham Ferrer, Festival Co-Director, at: abe@vconline.org. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 21, 2010.
