*WORK SCHEDULE*- On-going classes 2-6 hours/week contracted

*JOB SUMMARY*

Looking for proven theatre teachers experienced with special populations to
teach in our after-school programs and in our partnership with foster care
youth programs. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus. Could become a full-time
position in the future.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Duties may include, but are not limited to,
the following:

- Prepare and teach VAPA Standards-based lessons for students
- Teach enunciation, diction, voice development, and dialects, using
voice exercises, speech drills, explanation, lectures, and improvisation.
- Discuss and demonstrate vocal and body expression to teach acting
styles, character development, and personality projection among other things
- Teach elements of stagecraft, stage makeup, costume craft, play writing,
or play direction
- Helping students learn to read plays and understand the literary genre
of drama
- Teach how to act using improvisation, storytelling and theatre games,
- Teach how to create dramatic conflict and reach creative and
entertaining solutions.
- Create and maintain an appropriate classroom environment and help
enforce the organization’s expectations.
- Producing short plays in the classroom
- Producing a short presentation for families and friends at the end of
each 6 week session
- Communicate with parents in an effective and timely manner.
- Fulfill duties that are connected with non-academic responsibilities,
i.e. taking attendance, other assigned related duties, etc.

*QUALIFICATIONS*

- Knowledge of the VAPA State Standards for Theatre
- Produce lesson plans and Curricula
- Must live in or near North Orange County (within 30 minute commute from
Fullerton)
- Candidates must have a strong background in theatre including teaching
and directing children's theatre.

- Experience with special populations (such as foster care, mental
disabilities, the incarcerated, etc)
- Work well with public and staff - have a commitment to diversity and
proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and
abilities is important.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

- Have a current California Drivers license, valid auto insurance
- Be able to effectively manage multiple complex functions and achieve
goals and objectives
- Be able to work independently, under pressure and handle multiple
projects simultaneously
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within
identified timeframes
- Positive attitude, flexibility and problem solving mentality.
- Must have the ability to recruit and retain students in your program.
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
- All of our teachers must be prepared to undergo a background and
reference check before employment can commence.

*STIPEND*

$25-50 per hour, depending on experience
