Now Accepting Applications for Spring ArtWalk until February 11th

The City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division invites artists and merchants to express their environmental edge in the upcoming Spring ArtWalk to be held on Saturday and Sunday April 17 & 18, 2010. To streamline the application process and as part of a citywide effort to be greener, only online applications and payment will be taken this year. Register online at http://venturaspringartwalk.eventbrite.com/ Deadline Thursday, February 11th , 5 pm.

The Spring ArtWalk's featured work by Cathy Day Barroca, a mixed media work on wood panel features a carefree tree, flowing in the wind. It´s title "Longevity" and inspires us to take an innovative look at a greener, more sustainable new year. WAV, the much-a-waited-for green, artist live work space in Downtown Ventura will also be making it´s inaugural address at the ArtWalk.

The Cultural Affairs Division invites Southern California artists and merchants to take this opportunity to express your environmental edge along with these greater green celebrations by researching a local or international environmental issue, then telling the story through your art. Consider using recycled or post consumer products in your art works or other sustainable materials. See what happens when engineers and artist partner. Submit to California Creative Waste of California for a chance to win cash prizes for a special exhibit at ArtWalk See how at http://cwoca.com/cardboardchair/ . Have other ideas about unique environmental art installations outside a traditional exhibit? Call 805-658-4760 to discuss. ArtWalk organizers will also be partnering with Ventura Charter School and other green organizations to coordinate Earth Day exhibits on the beach and a beach clean up on Saturday morning as part of ArtWalk festivities. Though green is the broad theme, all types of fine visual art exhibits are definitely welcome.

ArtWalk is a free, twice-per-year, self-guided weekend walking tour of 200 established and emerging artists at over 80 galleries, studios and eclectic gallery-for-a day venues in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District, just steps from the beach and Ventura Pier. Multicultural performances outdoors, a variety of children´s activities and a free shuttle bus connect venue restaurants, salons, antique shops, boutiques and cafes. ArtWalk is one of the best ways to check out Ventura's bustling and diverse art community!

If you can buy a concert ticket online, then you can register online for ArtWalk, though just in case, a short training will be held between 4-7 pm on Wednesday, February 10th in the City Hall. Must RSVP. Assistance is also available for finding an artist or a venue please call 805-658-4760 ASAP.
