The Prague Summer Theatre School
at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts
(DAMU)
Enlivening the Performer - Presenting Performance
June 13th to July 4th, 2010
The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) is
pleased to announce a three-week Summer Theatre School in authorial and
alternative theatre forms. Courses are in English and will take place at
DAMU, located in the heart of Pragues historical center.

The Prague Summer Theatre School is rooted in the Czech Republics long
history of puppet and object theatre, and its unique contributions to
small-forms and authorial theatre since the 1950s. It is part of DAMU
International.

Overview

The Prague Summer Theatre School provides theatre students and beginning
practitioners with a diverse, hands-on immersion in the basic principles and
practices of authorial and alternative theatre forms. This years program
will focus on Enlivening the Performer and Presenting Performance. Students
can choose from among courses in acting and improvisation, site-specific and
interactive theatre, puppet and object theatre, solo authorial presentations
and Acting with the Inner Partner. An afternoon of seminars in modern Czech
theatre history will accompany this primarily studio-based program.

Students will work toward a final performance at the end of the third week.
Access to the schools theatrical and technical facilities (theatre and
rehearsal spaces, internet) is included in the workshop.

The Prague Summer Theatre School will also include an Acting with the Inner
Partner Intensive for individuals who have already studied the discipline at
DAMU or elsewhere. It will provide a unique opportunity to refresh and
develop their experience with Acting with the Inner Partner at its source.

Discover Pragues theatre scene and the Czech Republics cultural heritage

Students will regularly attend performances with school faculty to discover
Pragues rich theatre scene. Over the weekends, students may opt to join
extracurricular activities, like a trip to DAMUs recreational facility in
Southern Bohemia.

The intensive is an excellent way for non-Czech speaking students to
acquaint themselves with DAMU, especially for those who may be interested in
applying for its Erasmus program and/or the M.A. programs in English the
school will open in 2010.

Application Deadline: Applications accepted from January 1st, 2010 to April
30th, 2010.
