The Department of Cultural Affairs is a proud supporter of Los Angeles' 2010 African American Heritage Celebration, which will officially begin on January 29, 2010, to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. This celebration will promote and encourage an awareness of the significant contributions made by our City's African Americans in culture, education, politics, business, technology, and the arts.

As part of this celebration, our Department is creating a comprehensive calendar that will list the numerous events, exhibitions, lectures, and festivals related to this annual celebration of African American culture.

We invite visual artists to submit images of artwork for consideration to be part of the 2010 African American Calendar.

If their work is selected, the artists will receive credit and special thanks (with optional contact information) in our Calendar Artists section. In addition, we will mail artists copies of the calendar for personal use and distribution.

Please send 3-5 digital images (300 dpi or larger and 5 x 7 in size; must be high-resolution) Artists can also submit slides, CD's or transparencies to:

When sending in work, please include a credit sheet with the title, medium, size, date of completion of each piece, and artist's contact information (info you would like printed in the calendar)
