VIrtual Mirror - Sound
Giving space a voice

Architectural sound installation/intervention by Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Virtual Mirror - Sound is an architectural sound installation/intervention, which listens to ambient sound of a specific interior or exterior space, analyses it, and then tries to imitate and emit that sound back into the space. It can use the architecture as if it was an external ear (pinna), or it can listen directly to the space in between the walls.
The installation provides the space with ears, which enable the architecture to actively listen to and then "consciously" rearticulate its own ambient sound. It is a process of a space digesting its own sound and then voicing it back into itself - a process of articulating awareness of its (space's) own presence. It can be realized as a mechanical installation or as a performative human intervention.

WORKSHOP AND EVENT:
The workshop will be oriented towards the realization of Virtual Mirror - Sound as a performative human intervention. It will result in an event where a few participants will borrow their ears and voices to the interior space of Deichman public library, and consciously articulate its ambient sounds, possibily in combination with a prototype of a mechanical module.
The focus of the workshop will be on the active role of the process of listening, which the intervention embodies; where in the space and in which direction to listen to, what to listen to and for how long, how to try to imitate these perceived sounds and for how long.

The workshop will take place at Deichman library in Grünerløkka the 17th and 18th September from 12.00-16.00.

The event will be presented at Deichman Library, Grünerløkka, Saturday 19.09.09 at 13:00.

If you decide to participate, please send an email to office@ateliernord.no until 12.09.2009 with a header "Virtual Mirror workshop". There are only a few participants needed for this workshop, so please sign up immediately if you want to join!
