AMP Member of the Week Ganesh Anandan of Montreal, Canada is a percussionist, composer, improviser and instrument builder. Having initially studied South Indian classical Carnatic flute and percussion (mrdangam, tavil & kanjira) in Bangalore city, Ganesh also studied western music theory. Since the 1990's, he’s been transposing the Carnatic drumming technique and vocabulary to alternative surfaces such as frame drums and built instruments. The American composer Harry Partch influenced Ganesh to build a series of melodic instruments based on the Indian 22 shruti system (22 interval octave), and he’s designed an electric string instrument called The Shruti Stick (see AMP's "Art and More" galleries to see pictures) that combines three elements: the santoor (Asian hammer dulcimer), the prepared guitar and drum sounds.

Ganesh & Shruti

This is wonderful wonderful music. I go to this site and play the music whenever I need to get off the planet. My bird loves it too.
