Call for participation in Cannons & Muses project

This is a call to participate in the Cannons & Muses project. The project is an endeavor, a project, which came to be during the last war in Gaza (December 2008) and whose agenda is to face the question: What is the Artist`s role, and Art`s role, in Time of Major Crisis. Please forward this to anyone you think will be interested.

Cannons & Muses has begun being an International Collaboration including, by now, Israel, Japan, Germany and Ireland. There is no US group yet, but a few interested artists and establishments, primarily in New York & California.

There are a couple of things that may be a way for you to get to know the project and join in if you wish:

a) The Website:

Please, check out the CnM website:
CannonsAndMuses.org

This is where the updates of the whole project- as well as the news of each locations are going to be updated. If you are interested in being part of the project, send us a few lines as a bio, and a link to your website, and we'll publish it in the "artists" section (currently under construction). If you have any events you are participating in or shows you are presenting work in, feel free to send the details and I'll post them on the website & include them in the general (all-locations) mailing list.

Also- if you have any other links, of similar projects or interesting concepts- share them with us, and we'll post them in the "links" section.

b) The C&M Launch

The first official Cannons & Muses activity will take place in Tel Aviv. The details are still being worked out but the events, being workshops and shows will take place over a period of a few days in August. The proposal for the workshops & their mission statement are available. If you are interested, please let me know and I will send you the document.

In Dublin, the project is taking charge of a "Think Tank" in the famous Electric Picnic festival (http://www.electricpicnic.ie) that will take place on the 4th, 5th & 6th of semptember. The academic launch will take place on the 2nd week of September. This event will be a day or two during that week, and will include a short workshop, a symposium & a research activity all looking at the role of art & artists in current world crises. The activities will be open to the public and will be in collaboration with GradCAM (see gradcam.ie), an academic establishment in Dublin, Ireland.

Further activities in Japan, Germany and Iceland are now being worked out and will probably take place during fall 2009.

This call is a first step in forming a US group. Apart from contacting individuals we are keeping touch with various art and acdemic establishments in the US.
