National Juried Quilt Exhibit September 5- 27, 2009

The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center (DVAEC) located in historic
downtown Frederick, Maryland, is hosting a national juried quilt exhibit
September 5-27, 2009

TOP PRIZES $500 award for Best Art Quilt

$500 award for Best Traditional
$1000 award for Best in Show
Other prizes will be announced later

Image files must be received no later than June 5.
You will be informed of the juror¹s decision by June 30.

HOW TO ENTER:

· Send 1 full view of the completed quilt and 1 detail view. You may
submit up to three quilts. There is no size limit. The entry fee is $35 per
person, not per quilt.
· The $35 entry fee is non-refundable. We accept cash, check or charge.
Make checks out to DVAEC.
· Digital images may be submitted on a CD-ROM, with no
modifications‹this includes color correction. You may crop the background
only.
· You may place up to three quilts on ONE CD. Label each image with the
title and size on the full view, and title and the word DETAIL on the
close-up view.
· Label each CD with your name, email address and/or phone number and
title(s) of the work. CDs will not be returned.

Rules of Eligibility

· The work must be made of cloth or cloth-like material and consist of
a quilt top and a backing and the middle. The layers must be held together
by hand or machine-made stitching.
· Quilts must have been finished between June 2006-June 2009, and be in
excellent condition.
· Quilts must be constructed and quilted by person(s) named on entry
blank. Those listed as "other stitchers² on this quilt may also have their
own entries.
· All quilts must have the rod pocket sewn 1² from the top back edge
for hanging and a label identifying the maker, maker¹s address, phone and
email and title of quilt. The label must be stitched or securely attached
to the back lower right edge of each quilt.
· Quilts must be available for exhibit from September 5 - 27, no
substitutions will be allowed. Submission of images for consideration by the
juror constitutes agreement to have the quilt photographed for publicity
purposes and commits the work to exhibit should it be selected.
* If selected, the entry arrives and it is determined to differ
significantly from the digital image submitted for jurying, the committee
reserves the right to reject the entry and override the jurors' initial
decision. The decision as to whether the difference is significant is
entirely the prerogative of the committee.
* Artist must be 18 years or older. All work must be the result of
independent effort and original in design. Work cannot be the product of a
kit, or created under the direction of a teacher or other artist. The work
must not be a copy or a variation on the original design of another artist
working in any medium.
* If the juror determines the work is not an independent effort the work may
be disqualified. The decision is the prerogative of the juror.

SHIPPING
The artist is responsible for all costs relating to shipping and insurance
of work while in transit to and from DVAEC. Work should be shipped in a
substantial, reusable container. Identify your quilt/s with your name, the
name of the quilt, your email address and phone number. A return shipping
label must be contained within the packing container.
The DVAEC will not be responsible for damage due to incorrect packing or an
insufficient container. Any damage to the container/quilt during shipping
will be reported immediately to the quilter. All work will be handled with
care and returned in the original packing material. Quilts may be hand
delivered to DVAEC.

SALES
Quilters whose work is not for sale must write NFS and must list a valid
insurance value in US dollars on the entry form. In the event of a sale, the
Center will retain a 30% commission on work (by non-members) 20 % for
members¹ work sold during the exhibition.

INSURANCE
The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center will insure the work from the
time it is delivered to the Center (following published schedule deadlines)
until it is picked up or shipped back to the artist. In the event of loss or
damage, reimbursement will be the sale price of the quilt minus the
commission to DVAEC. If the quilt is offered NFS the insurance value must be
substantiated; it will be the artist¹s responsibility to provide
documentation concerning the value of the work and the extent of the claim.

ACCEPTED WORKS

CD¹s of accepted works will become the property of the Center. Accepted
works must reach DVAEC by August 15th . DVAEC reserves the right to
disqualify any work that varies from the entry materials, or is not properly
prepared for display. Images of displayed work and images submitted for
jurying may be used by DVAEC for promotional purpose. CDs will not be
returned. The Delaplaine Visual Art Education Center reserves the right to
exercise sound discretion with respect to the display of art at its
facility.
